What To Do When You Start Hating Your Online Business

Show Notes

If you're like me, there will come a time when you look around at the business you've built and you'll want to shake things up. Maybe what you've created is no longer a great fit. Or maybe it wasn't the right business in the first place. What do you do? I'm sharing 5 steps you can take when you find yourself hating your business.

Episode Highlights:

  • Today I want to talk about something I’ve experienced in my business before (on more than one occasion) — hating the business that I’ve built.

  • If you’re in this position right now it feel like you may end up there one day (so many of us do) then this episode is for you!

  • If you’re hating your business, do this…

  1. Make as much space as possible for you to rest.

    • Your first tendency may be to try to fix your business. But I’ve learned that you can’t fix your business from a place of burnout and frustration…

    • Stop any unnecessary tasks or projects. Put things on hold.

    • Cut the energy you’re putting out to a bare minimum.

    • The goal here is to give you a solid foundation for figuring out your next move.

  2. Stop taking in ideas and advice that doesn’t serve you or feel right.

    • So much of our frustration with business comes from the inputs of others telling us we aren’t doing enough or making enough.

    • Cutting out this noise allows you to get back to the center.

  3. Take time to clear your head. Again — we can’t solve a problem when we are deep in the problem. It’s okay to walk away.

  4. Separate your work from the rest of your business. Is it the work that you’re doing that you’re frustrated with or is it the business surrounding your work that’s not serving you?

  5. Decide one thing you can change and ease back into your work with the goal of making that shift.

    • Change the hours you’re working.

    • A product or service that you need to retire.

    • Hire support in your business.

Tweetable Quotes

  • “So much of the frustration in our businesses comes from all of the inputs that we receive from other people telling us what we should or should not be doing, telling us that we're not doing enough or making enough or creating enough.” - Tyler J. McCall

  • “Stop following people, stop checking on the content, stop reading the emails, whatever it may be, shut off those inputs. What happens when you cut off all of that noise? It allows you to get back to center even more. It allows you to start asking yourself what you should do next” -Tyler J. McCall

  • “Take some time to clear your head again. We can't solve a problem when you're deep in the problem. It's really hard to see the muck when we're deep in the muck” - Tyler J. McCall
